MBHA's Children Services
We Provide support for children ages 5-21 with intellectual disabilities or autism. The work is usually part-time, mid-afternoon, early evening, and occasional weekends. We hire: Direct support workers.
IN-HOME WORK WITH CHILD
JOB DESCRIPTION
Work evenings and weekends, one to one, with a child who has mental retardation or autism. Work in the child's home and take him/her into the community. Your work is based on a treatment plan written specifically for that individual child. Depending on what the child needs, you may teach the child:
- Independent living skills – bathing, dressing, staying safe.
- Behavior management – focusing, managing anger.
- Social skills – appropriate behavior in public places, skills for playing with other children.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience working with children, volunteer or paid. A reliable vehicle and a clean driving record (no OUI's). Must possess a valid Maine Driver's License and successfully pass a criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.

· Relates to client and family with compassion
· Uses creativity in planning children's activities
· Knows how to have fun while accomplishing goals · Enjoys children

IN-HOME WORK WITH ADULT
JOB DESCRIPTION
Work one to one with an adult who has mental illness. Work in the client's home and accompany him/her into the community. Your work is based on a treatment plan written in consultation with that individual. You will:
· Help the client identify their own goals and interests
· Support the client in taking steps toward achieving their goals
· Encourage development of each client's personal interests
· Help the client to live as independently as possible
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Good people skills. A reliable vehicle and a clean driving record (no OUI's). Commitment to earn Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician 1 (MHRT/1) Certification within one year (97 hours of training). Must hold a valid Maine driver's license and successfully pass a criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.
The ideal individual is one who:

· Listens to the client, respects client's opinions and wishes
· Uses creativity in planning
· Knows how to have fun while accomplishing goals
· Enjoys people
EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED. MHRT/1 is a plus.
